"Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey." - Fitzhugh Mullen
After nine years of living abroad, I thought I was back in Texas for good. I owned a home, had a beautiful chocolate Lab, taught in a great school, and enjoyed puttering in the garden and then cooling off in the pool. But life has a way of tossing you a curve ball just when you think you've got it all figured out, and here I am in Beijing, China. Never saw that one coming!
Who knows what led me down this path? Maybe as a child when I learned that poem, "Wednesday's child is full of woe (poor Wednesdays!), Thursday's child has far to go" I took it a little too literally--I was born on a Thursday. Or maybe being given the name Barbara, meaning "foreigner" it was sort of pre-ordained that I would end up actually *being* one for the better part of my life?
So I hope to chronicle some of my life in China--a rapidly changing place! And some of the many travels I have been so fortunate to make on this wild ride through life.
